About the Organization
Ballerinas of the Bayou dba The Wellness Collective powered by Ballerinas of the Bayou is a New Orleans-based, community-led nonprofit dedicated to advancing the physical, emotional, creative, and economic well-being of youth and families through the arts, wellness education, youth entrepreneurship, college and career preparedness, and workforce development.
Rooted in Algiers, New Orleans, we affectionately refer to our creative campus as “our oyster” a place rich in cultural history, creativity, and community, yet too often overlooked when it comes to investment and access to opportunity. Within this space, we are building a vital anchor for creativity, wellness, and workforce development, bringing resources and experiences under one roof that young people and families have historically had to leave their neighborhoods to find.
Our creative campus includes a dedicated recording studio and flexible mixed-media spaces that support dance, theater, music, visual arts, and interdisciplinary programming. These spaces allow us to host youth rehearsals, artist residencies, community workshops, wellness experiences, workforce training, and public showcases in an environment designed to be welcoming, affirming, and accessible.
Though officially established as a nonprofit in 2022, The Wellness Collective was born from lived experience and a vision that began long before the pandemic. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, it became painfully clear that safe spaces for creative expression, youth development, and opportunity were not equally accessible across New Orleans communities. Later, after being exposed to transformative youth programming outside of Louisiana, our founder's vision crystallized:
What if those same accessible, creative, and life-changing opportunities existed right here at home? What if young people from New Orleans could lead, create, heal, and thrive in spaces designed with them and for them?
We decided to build it.
Today, The Wellness Collective engages more than 700 young people annually, creating pathways through after-school intensives, artist residencies, movement and wellness programming, public art showcases, entrepreneurship experiences, college and career preparation, and culturally responsive workforce development.
We believe young people should not have to leave their community to find opportunity, nor should they have to choose between creativity and economic mobility, wellness and achievement, or culture and career. We bring those possibilities together.
Whether a young person is taking the stage, creating original artwork, learning a new skill, vending at a community event, preparing for college, exploring a career, or discovering their own voice, we create opportunities for them to heal, lead, create, and shine.
We know what it feels like to not have a seat at the table. So we are building a bigger table and making sure young people have the resources, confidence, and opportunity to own their place at it.
Our work is rooted in equity, lived experience, cultural memory, radical joy, and artistic creativity, anchored in the belief that the arts are not simply enrichment they are essential to community vitality, youth development, wellness, and economic opportunity.
At The Wellness Collective, we move young people:
From at-risk to at-promise.
From underserved to unapologetically thriving.
From invisibility to intentional celebration.
Because potential is universal, but opportunity is not. Our work is about making sure opportunity is accessible, creativity is celebrated, wellness is prioritized, and every young person has the chance to become the fullest expression of who they are.

Our Mission
Our Vision

The Wellness Collective is a refusal to accept invisibility, scarcity, or silence as the norm. We are building a future rooted in equity, cultural memory, radical joy, and opportunity where young people and families are seen, supported, celebrated, and empowered to thrive.
We envision a world where youth and families move:
From “at-risk” to at-promise.
From “underserved” to unapologetically thriving.
From invisibility to intentional celebration.
Our Goal

-
Expand equitable access to wellness and the arts by creating safe, affirming spaces where youth and families can move, create, heal, and thrive.
-
Cultivate confident, healthy, and purpose-driven young people through movement, mental wellness, mentorship, leadership, and life-skills development.
-
Create pathways to economic mobility through entrepreneurship, workforce development, college and career preparation, and real-world learning experiences.
-
Preserve and celebrate culture and community identity by centering lived experience, cultural memory, creativity, and radical joy.
-
Transform opportunity in underserved communities by ensuring young people have the resources, relationships, and platforms to move from at-risk to at-promise and from invisibility to intentional celebration.
